Since early this fall I’ve been wondering what Christmas would look like in the fourth year of the “Great Recession”. I believe that this year is going to be more about doing than buying (although I’m sure there will be plenty of that). The imperative for Christmas 2011 will be more about creating memories and less about accumulating stuff.
I expect alot more events and parties to attend from the office to the neighbourhood to family and friends and friends of friends. AND everyone and their dog will have a camera on them at all times to capture the memories - think cell phone. What does this add up to?
The truth be told, you will be photographed more this Holiday season than you imagined or will even know about. These photographs will not only appear framed and on your parent’s mantle but also on Facebook, office newsletters, e-zines and various other websites on the world wide web. My question is…How do you look? Can you take a chance? If you knew you were going to have your picture taken and posted 100 times in an evening, would you have washed your hair?
Now-a-days you can’t really afford to go out not looking your best. It’s time to get real. Control the outcome. Get a strategy to look your best as often as you can. Here are my top three hints for looking fabulous for the Holidays and everyday:
1) If you have a special event coming up, call the Salon and get an appointment for a profession blow style and yes… a professional make-up application as well. It doesn’t have to be fancy (like for a wedding party) but it will be very well done, suit your tastes and hold up all night. That’s what professional stylists are here for!
2) Make and keep regular appointments with your stylist. They are trying to help you and protect your image, but you have to help them help you. It’s a symbiotic relationship! Regular appointment times go a long way to make this pact a positive for everyone.
3) You are the “Home Hairstylist” everyday for six weeks between visits to the salon, so tool up! Purchase, stock and learn to use the same quality professional products your stylist uses on you. Your stylist wouldn’t dare try to do your “Do” with spray gel called “Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific”, from Safeway. Why do you? Also, consider using professional cosmetics instead of drugstore brands for longer wear, better coverage, less skin irritation (acne & breakouts) and an overall more professional look.
Remember this Holiday season with nothing but fond memories, after all, creating lasting memories are what Christmas is all about. And while you’re at it make sure that every picture and every posting of you this season is one you’re proud of. Plan ahead and control the outcome. Better start now…smartphones aren’t going anywhere soon!
